Have you ever sat on your couch late Friday night or early Saturday morning watching an infomercial about an exercise program and just felt the weight melt away from your behind?!?
Why not, you ask? Because, it just doesn’t happen that way. If you want to lose weight, get in shape, and become strong you have to do the work. It is that simple. You must be active. You gotta move Ladies!
The concept is the exact same with spiritual growth. You gotta do the work. You gotta move. We are told to lead a life worthy of our calling (Ephesians 4:1). Paul was telling the church to be active. We cannot expect our life to reflect the call of our Savior by sitting and doing nothing. It involves more than mere faith. Look back at our verse, James 1:22, be DOERS of the word.
What does that mean for you? What will it involve for you to be a DOER? What is God’s call on your life? Romans 12:6 tells us that God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. What is the thing you do well? For me it means reaching out, making myself available, taking the initiative. Someone once said to me, “I can’t help if people don’t ask.” That’s bogus; a cop out. I can’t be the hands and feet of Christ by waiting for someone to ask me for help. If you see a need to be met, be the one to meet it. If you see a sister in despair, be the one to intervene.
Take the time today to read through Hebrews 11. This Hall of Heroes was not compiled of people who depended on faith. They’re faith was their source of strength AND they put action with it. These were people of vigor and drive.
Meditate on James 2:14-17 today. I’ll empower you be active by letting you find the passage. Go on…get moving!
By Grace Alone,
Tracey
