We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it.
Philippians 1:29 (NLT)
In this week’s introduction after confessing my failure to measure up in 2011, I asked this question:
“So, what am I going to do now? Maybe just go ahead and give up. Quit. Say “so long” to trying. Maybe it’s time to hang up the shoes of good intentions so to speak.”
Quitting is so easy. But the results of it are not. If we fail to measure up to God’s standards we feel conviction. If we fail to measure up to our own standards we feel like a failure. But when we quit trying we become a failure.
In Philippians 1:29 quoted above we see Paul admitting he is still in the midst of the struggle of life – the struggle to overcome our human weaknesses and live in the Spirit instead. In Philippians 3:12-14 (also quoted above), we see how Paul is handling the struggle to overcome his humanness in favor of living in the power of the Holy Spirit. I love the way The Message words it:
“By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.”
THERE IT IS, THE KEY TO ULTIMATE SUCCESS. Paul says he “is not turning back.” He refuses to quit trying. He refuses to quit. Period.
So, here is the answer to my question about what I am going to do now. I’m going to keep on keeping on. I am going to keep trying, and baby step by baby step I’ll keep running towards Jesus and His ways. No turning back. And in the end at least I’ll know this; I’m farther along than I was yesterday towards the high calling of Jesus. And because of His Grace that covers my weaknesses and failures one day I will finally “arrive.”
I pray you will too. Don’t quit my friend. The finish line is closer than you think.
Until Next Time,
