A Fresh Renewal: A Vibrant Living Faith

A Fresh Renewal: A Vibrant Living Faith

A Vibrant Living Faith

So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).
James 2:17 AMP (emphasis mine)

One of the toughest times in my life occurred the first year my husband joined the Navy back in 2001. Within a six month period both he and our middle son deployed, my father died, I had to move by myself from one rental house to another, and my mother-in-law was hospitalized and came very close to dying. I can remember crying out to God to please spare her as I just didn’t think I could handle one more thing. My husband had missed my father’s funeral. Could he bear the loss of his mother while at sea? My faith was definitely tested, but God in His great mercy gave me the grace to get through each and every trial. Was it easy? No. But through it all I would learn that my God is, in fact, big enough to get me through whatever comes my way.

How is your faith doing? Are you showing by your actions and deeds that it is more than just facts and head knowledge? When a crisis hits, what sustains you?

Living by faith is a moment by moment choice to either act upon or ignore what we know and believe about God and His word. Here are some truths to learn and practice to help keep your faith vital when being tested.

  • When troubles come, go to God first before pouring your heart out to someone else.
  • Purpose to keep your confidence totally placed in God and not in something else, someone, or even yourself.
  • When you realize you’ve made a bad choice or misplaced your trust, immediately confess it and run back to Him. Call sin what it is – SIN! Then repent and move on.
  • When tough times come, try rejoicing in them.
  • When your circumstances seem to be in opposition to God’s word, hang on to His promise.
  • Looking up and reading the great stories of faith found in Hebrews 11 will boost your faith when doubt creeps in.
  • When you see someone in need (i.e. hungry, sick, lonely, etc.) do something about it.

An active faith requires action – choose to believe and obey God regardless of what you see or feel.
