Where are your thoughts today? I imagine this close to Christmas you’re in search of perfect gifts to bestow upon family and friends, right?
When we take time out of the physical rush of the season to think about the true meaning of Christmas it often conjures up such emotions as love, gratitude, peace and joy. Rarely do the terms loss, loneliness, suffering, sacrifice, or surrender find their way into our descriptive holiday vocabulary.
I sometimes wonder if those powerful feelings ever crossed the mind of our Lord Jesus Christ, the very reason we celebrate the season in the first place. After all, He was completely God and completely man. He dealt it all and He felt it all. His time in the Garden of Gethsemane proves that He was capable of every human emotion, even the unfavorable ones.
I urge you to take the time this season to remember what Christ sacrificed for us in order to have a cause for celebration. He chose to give up His birthright, albeit temporarily, for you and for me. He surrendered His throne to save our souls. He suffered the weight of the world’s sin so that we could be reconciled to God.
When was the last time you surrendered your rights on someone else’s behalf?
Is your mind still set on finding that perfect gift? How about celebrating the season birthed out of undeserved compassion by gifting it to another this year? Now, that’s a gift that can never be outgrown!
Christmas Blessings,
Tracey
